CUBE ROOT
CUBE ROOT In order to understand cube root, we first need to know what a cube is. A number is said to be cubed when it is used three times in multiplication. Now, cube root is the opposite of cube. Cube root is said to be the value which is cubed to give the original number to us. Like when we look at a tree we just see the trunk and the leaves but their roots cant be seen which actually produced it. Thus, cube root is the value which produced the cube. To denote that the number is cubed, we write it as 5^3 which means that the number 5 is to be multiplied three times. Cube root is denoted by which is a radical symbol with small 3 to show that it is cube root. Example 1: Find the cube of 5 and cube root of 125. Solution: STEP 1: Multiply the number 5 three times i.e. 5 x 5 x 5 = 125 = Therefore, 125 is the cube of 5 = Hence, 5^3 = 125 = STEP 2: Calculating the cube root of 125: 3125 = 5 = Therefore, 5 is the cube root of 125 i.e. 125= 5 x 5 x 5. = Since 5 appeared three times in the multiplication, thus 5 is the cube root of 125. Example 2: Find the cube root of 64. Solution: STEP 1: Calculating the cube root of 64: 364 = 4 = Therefore, the cube root of 64 is 4 i.e. 64 = 4 x 4 x 4. Since 4 appeared three times in the multiplication, thus 4 is the cube root of 64. = Hence, 4 is the cube root of 64.

Hiring a Private Tutor Ask the Right Questions! - Private Tutoring
Hiring a Private Tutor Ask the Right Questions! BobbiM May 20, 2015 If you are considering hiring a private tutor for your child or if you need one, do not think that you are alone. According to Dr. Sandi Ayaz, executive director of the National Tutoring Association, private tutoring in the U.S. alone has âexploded tenfoldâ over the past eight years. That is a tremendous growth increase! The reasons for looking into private tutors are almost as many as there are kids. Some parents hire tutors to help their children overcome academic obstacles, others contract with tutors to encourage and challenge their children in ways that might not be possible in a classroom setting, and still others are looking for tutors to fill in gaps or add to the knowledge their kids are getting in the classroom. Whatever the objective of the tutoring may be, itâs important for parents and students to take the time to find and hire a tutor who will work well with the students learning style and personality. Here are some great questions to help make sure that that you find a tutor that is right for you: Questions to Ask Private Tutors Before Starting: 1. What is your teaching style? Students learn in a variety of styles and at different paces, which is why itâs impossible for teachers in schools to structure their classroom lessons to match each individual studentâs preferred learning style. The right private tutor, however, can adapt lessons to cater to your childâs strengths whether he is an auditory learner (learns best by listening), visual learner (learns best through sight) or a kinesthetic learner (learns best through experience). Before you hire a tutor, make sure to find out if he can structure lessons in a format that works with your childâs preferred learning style. And if you dont know your childs learning style, check in with his teachers and current school for an assessment or update on that information. It will be a huge help for both you and any tutor you finally work with. 2. What is your tutoring plan for working with my child? While this is a pretty open ended question and is difficult for someone who has not yet met your child or even seen examples of their school work, the response will reveal the tutorâs thought process for diagnosing your childâs needs and creating a plan to achieve the desired results. The right tutor will have a strategy, and may even have specific methods, for identifying problem areas and understanding the childâs learning behavior. An effective tutor recognizes the importance of working with the student (and in some cases, the parents) to establish performance improvement goals that are both measurable and attainable. Bottom line open ended questions like this show the tutors comfort level and confidence with respect to their ability to work with your child. Finding that out early on is critical. 3. Why do you tutor? Successful tutoring is really about developing a productive learning relationship between any private tutor and their students. Those tutors who are most effective are passionate about teaching and are able to derive value from seeing their students succeed. While many tutors provide lessons and tutoring as a primary or supplemental source of income, the ideal tutor to find will take a vested interest in your childâs progress and have the patience and willingness to do whatever it takes to help your child succeed. And when you find a tutor like that, you will recognize the difference and the student will also notice the results are measurable as well. 4. Do you have any private tutoring references, or have you worked with students in a similar situation as my child? Ideally you would find a tutor that is able to provide references and referrals for you to contact. But they are hard to come by for several reasons. Not the least of which is that some students or families would prefer to keep their tutoring requirements private. Thats where an online tutoring source like PrivateTutoringAtHome.com compile lesson ratings and written reviews from actual students who have previously worked with tutors. That allows you to read third-party reviews from parents and students who have worked with a tutor. It makes it much easier for you to determine what you can expect from a tutor in terms of subject proficiency and personality. And if you need a tutor, you dont want to waste time on someone that doesnt know the material you need to learn or has a different teaching style than will work for your child. If you choose to hire a tutor on your own rather than through a reputable marketplace, you still want to make sure to ask for references. Do realize that the reference you receive that way may not be a completely impartial source. 5. How can you help my child become an independent learner? The most effective and valuable tutoring relationships will help the student become a more engaged, independent learner. After all, isnt that what we would all want for our kids? Memorizing and mastering very specific topics or skills may yield some results, but it is ultimately a short-term solution to the studentâs broader educational needs. While certain lessons may focus on a particularly troublesome topic, learning to understand and appreciate the learning process, theory and logic behind concepts will help your child overcome subsequent obstacles, avoid future frustration and flourish as a student. Planning For Midterms and Finals - Private Tutoring
Planning For Midterms and Finals BobbiM Mar 31, 2014 Is it that time of year again? Midterms? Finals? Do you want to pull your hair out yet? Here are some tried and true tips to help you do your best. -Plan ahead. Start to rehearse and review your notes and the texts BEFORE exam week so that you can cut down on your workload for the week. Starting early is essential for classes that have cumulative exams because there is so much information to review. -Cut down on work or other commitments. If you work part-time, ask for some time off or for fewer hours at your job and make sure that your family and friends understand that you will be extra busy. Try not to add any new commitments during midterm and final time. -Get enough sleep. Pulling all-nighters for a big exam rarely pays off. Instead try to create your schedule for exam week in a way that leaves adequate sleep time. You wont do well on an exam if you are falling asleep while taking it. -Study with a partner. Misery loves company and this is never truer than during midterms and finals. Hopefully by the time midterms roll around you have found a study group that works. Study with your group or study partner to keep each other on schedule and motivated to work. -Dont panic. The whole world will not stop and does not end because of midterms and finals. If you did thy the pressure is getting to you, readjust your schedule to allow more break time and try to really relax during those breaks. If you find that you have excessive anxiety, get some help before it becomes a stumbling block to doing well. Excerpt from College Success Strategies by Sherrie L. Nist and Jodi Patrick Holschuh.
10 Things the Internet Obsessed Over in 2016
10 Things the Internet Obsessed Over in 2016 Twitter/@Josholzz 2. Arthurs fist You probably remember growing up with this 90s show and this year, it became popular again thanks to a Twitter post. Twitter user @AlmostJT thought the screencap of Arthurs fist from an old episode was relatable AF and posted about it. Soon, everyone was using the picture to show their Internet anger over something. We had 17 years to make a joke out of Arthurs fist. That right, this screencap is from an episode in 1999. I guess if you are ever watching an old cartoon episode, see if anything can be turned into a reaction meme! Twitter/@kingfee901 3. Conceiteds pursed lips Here is another reaction that the Internet was obsessed about and honestly, it is the perfect petty duck-face! Did you know that this is actually the face of the rapper Conceited who made this face during a rap battle? I dont know why but that makes it 10x funnier! This was pretty much everyones face when 2016 was like, dont worry, I can fix this! Knowyourmeme.com 4. White House memes Barack Obama and Joe Biden will be leaving the White House in January but, at least, we will always have their memes! The internet was always obsessed with the bromance between these two but as the election wore on, our Vice President was turned into a practical jokester. After Trump was elected, a whole lot of memes like this one popped up where Joe wanted to prank Trump and Obama had to tell him no. I wonder if Obama just sits in his oval office laughing at what the Internet is doing to his legacy. Twitter/@TeethonTeeth 5. Gavin, the kid I bet some of you are going, Oh, he has a name! This kid has been popping up all over social media for months as a reaction meme but it took me forever to figure out what his name actually is. Gavin is like the most recognizable kid on the internet at the moment. HE HAS SO MANY FACES! This 5-year-old became famous thanks to his Uncle, the Vine star Nick Mastodon, who kept shoving a camera in his nephews face. There is a Gavin face for every situation and is basically the new Chloe (BTW, that was three years ago). I wonder what this kid is going to think when he is older and realizes his face is plastered everywhere on the Internet. Twitter/@GavMemes 6. Water bottle flip You know something did well on the Internet when there is a Wikipedia page about it and it gets banned in schools. The water bottle flip challenge had everyone trying to flip a water bottle in the air so it would land straight up, which is actually a lot harder than it seems. Water bottle flipping became popular when a teenager at a high school in North Carolina did the act during his school talent show. The video went viral for the kids weird talent (and the students wild reaction) and soon everyone was trying to be cool like him. Remember when people used to get excited about throwing a paper ball in a trash can? Twitter 7. Dicks out for Harambe This time it wasnt a dress that divided our nation but rather the death of an animal. On May 28th, a four-year-old boy managed to fall into the enclosure of a 17-year-old western lowland gorilla named Harambe at the Cincinnati Zoo and the whole thing was caught on camera because, you know, its 2016. As a result, Harambe had to be shot and killed so they could safely rescue the boy. This caused an outrage all over the country as people were pissed at Cincinnati Zoo for killing an innocent gorilla. Soon, the hatred was directed towards the mother of the boy and thousands of commenters demanded that she pay for being a bad parent. Many believed his death was unjustified and Harambe basically became the mascot for 2016. #JusticeforHarambe #RIPHarambe The Internet, once again, didnt let something go and soon Harambe became a meme. Enter the photoshop kings. What really went viral was when Twitter user @sexualjumanji uploaded a picture of himself holding a fake gun with the caption, âWe comin with them dicks out to avenge harambe!!!â Cue everyone to start chanting dicks out for Harambe. Twitter/@HarambeDepot 8. Michael Phelps Olympic face Move over Mckayla Maroney, Michael Phelps is the new Olympic meme king! The Rio Olympics had a lot going on with scandals here and there (cough cough, Ryan Lochte) and the gold medalist summed it up with the perfect face! Apparently, he was in the zone right before his 200-meter butterfly semi-finals but everyone thought he was glaring at his rival Chad Le Clos. Either way, it was funny AF and the Internet loved making a meme out of him! Twitter/@AJVoelpelCG 9. Me-to-me Kermit The screencap of Kermit and his evil self is from the 2012 âMuppets Most Wantedâ film, but it recently became a meme because, I mean, we always have a Kermit meme. Twitter user Anya made a joke out of it about stealing fluffy dogs and then it went viral, becoming a meme of its own. It is basically 2016 version of the age old devil and angel on your shoulders meme. Except the devil is more like your inner conscious telling you to do something stupid because #YOLO. Twitter/@aaannnnyyyyaaaa 10. 2016 was a meme of its own 2016 was just so awful that all we can really do at this point is laugh until we cry. Making fun of this year became a meme because how else were we supposed to cope with it? Some were related to the election, some to deaths (including Harambe, of course), and some were just summing it up in total. Happy to say, this year is finally coming to an end. Lets hope that maybe 2017 memes will be about how great it is. Instagram/sarahandersencomics Now, the real question is: What is in store for next year? What will become the new Vine? Grades The Holiday Season Slump - TutorNerds
Grades The Holiday Season Slump - TutorNerds Grades and The Holidays: Beat the Slump Now that everyone is back from Thanksgiving break, many high school students find it difficult to get back into the academic groove (READ: Thanksgiving Study Catch-Up Time). Most students have been working hard since the end of August and are ready for a long-term break. However, its still important to stay focused between now and December 20, when the next break starts a private Irvine academic tutor can help you stay motivated. Senioritis shouldnt set in until April or May 2015. In fact, its better not to let senioritis set in at all. December is way too early to let go of academic responsibilities but itâs a good time to reevaluate what is reasonable and what is not. Successful students should ask themselves the following questions this time of year. 1. Can I handle my academic load as it is now? If you are feeling entirely exhausted and unable to keep up the pace in December, now is the time to reevaluate educational commitments. Some things are flexible while others are not. If you are planning to take the SAT or ACT in the spring but think that you might not be able to handle it, consider taking it in February instead (READ: A Timeline Study Guide for the SAT). However, if you have signed up for an AP class, you are now committed to taking the exam in May. Can you handle everything on your plate? What can you cut off the list? For example, if you are doing volunteer work for high school credit you may be able to put that off until the summer so that you can focus on your current academic commitments. 2. Are my extracurricular activities reasonable? Many students have signed up for extracurricular activities. This is a great thing to do, of course, but not at the expense of grades in core subjects. Students who are signed up for sports, arts and music, or community service activities should consider whether they are doing too much or perhaps not enough. Many students have overextended their schedule while other students may find that they are far behind in activities that would be impressive on a college application. December is a great time to think about subtracting or adding extracurricular activities (READ: End of the Grading Period Crunch Time). 3. Is my schedule consistent? Now is a good time to take a look at consistency in education. Many students put things off until the last minute during the month of December simply due to fatigue. Unfortunately, this can backfire. You may save 5 minutes now only to spend 15 minutes later and end up in a panic. If you are starting to feel as though you do not have the same amount of consistency that you had in August, speak with your tutor about a new schedule that might be reasonable and ask him or her to help you stay organized. 4. Do my grades meet my expectations? If you know that youre an A student in most of your subjects, but you have been sliding by with a B recently, youre probably suffering from a holiday season slump. Its important to talk with your family about the amount of time that you will need to study between now and January 1st. Many adults have one or two weeks off from work and dont need to look at their email or listen to their voicemails until they go back in January. However, most college prep students will have some work to do over the winter holiday break. Sometimes its difficult for relatives to remember what is expected of a high school student during this time of year (READ: Ask a Nerd! Grades and AP Class). Let your parents know ahead of time about the amount of hours you may need to spend studying, preparing assignments, or studying for a standardized test during the last two weeks of December. The holidays should be a fun time. You should enjoy family, friends, travel, gifts, and plenty of sweet treats. However, dont let all of these distractions take you away from your college prep tasks. Make a plan now and stick to it for the remainder of the month to give you the best chance of success for the rest of the academic year. Youre about halfway done with the school year, so enjoy yourself but keep your eye on the prize. All blog entries, with the exception of guest bloggers, are written by Tutor Nerds. 8 Simple, Straightforward Ways to Learn a Language
8 Simple, Straightforward Ways to Learn a Language 8 Simple, Straightforward Ways to Learn a Language Did you hear the one about the guy in New York who learned how to speak over 20 different languages by the age of 17?No, this actually isnât a set up for a corny joke. A young man by the name of Timothy Doner from Manhattan, New York, whose native language is English, actually started learning how to speak another language, French, at the age of 8.He says he didnt learn to fully appreciate his gift until he was older and he started to learn Arabic for his Bar Mitzvah at the age of 13.Since then, he has used a couple of the secrets found in this post to become the much admired polyglot that he is today. Whatâs even more impressive is that he was able to accomplish all of this without a teacher! The reason for sharing his story was not to intimidate you, but to inspire you.If you want to learn how to speak several different languages just like Timothy, then terrific! What you seek to accomplish will take a lot of patience and work, but it can be doneâ"and this article will show you how.You excited? You should be! Here are the eight secrets to speaking multiple languages fluently. 8 Simple, Straightforward Ways to Learn a Language1. Start nowYes, I went there. No sugar coating for this hard truth. Maybe youve been indecisive about which language to study or how to study. Stop hemming and hawing. The sooner you start learning, the better.Believe it or not, the best time to become a multiple language speaker is actually around the same time when youâre getting your potty training. (Hopefully this is when youâre a baby or a toddler!)Further evidence supports this, generally proposing that children should be learning how to become bilingual (or multilingual) while strengthening both their cognitive and linguistic skills as early as the age of three. But why is this so?Well, the mind is in the best shape to take on learning a languageâ"or even several different languages at onceâ"during those pre-adolescent years. During the early childhood stages, the b rain is better equipped to take in all of the different sounds and patterns that go along with learning linguistics no matter what language theyre being taught. In addition, their listening skills are at their best because, since they cant really talk, they little choice but to listen! All of this then helps the baby or child regurgitate the information theyve received. All in all, theyre able to mimic what theyve learned at much better rates than either teens and adults can.Despite the above being true, youâre never too old to learn anything! Your brain keeps developing and growing until youre 25, and some say development continues even beyond 25. Even once its not technically still growing, your brain is still malleable.Plus, we can simply take all of the above information about children learning languages and use it to our advantage. Just try learning the way that children learn!Another lesson to be learned from children is that, if you do plan to start speaking several langu ages at once, its best to start now rather than later. The longer you wait, the more serious time and effort it will take. Remember, all that time you could spend learning will fly by anywayâ"and if youre not studying, youre that much farther from reaching your goals. No more excuses. Start today! Take a break from reading this and watch one short video clip in the language you want to learn, or do it as soon as youre done readingâ"but not a minute after!2. Make language learning habitualThereâs a wise old saying that goes something like this: âIf you fail to plan, you plan to fail.âThis applies to various aspects of everyday life, including learning how to master speaking new languages. To fully learn anything successfully, its imperative that you possesses good planning skills and form good study habits (well, it may not be absolutely imperative, but it does help!).Planning ahead will give you a mental map to follow in order to successfully get the results you want. It also helps you set reasonable end goals so that you can try your best to accomplish them in the time frame that you want. Here are some neat studying habits to keep in mind while you plan out the best ways to tackle your foreign language speaking mission!Think in your target language(s). No matter what youre doing, try thinking of vocabulary only in that language. When speaking in a target language, only use that language! Seems simple, but this is often neglected. If youre an English speaker trying to learn German, do your best to only think of German words when talking aloud. Dont think of them in English and translate them into German and, above all, dont ask what the translation is by uttering the English word to your partner! For example, if you mean to say, I want to go to the store in Germanâ"which is Ich möchte in den Laden gehenâ"and you only know the words Ich möchte (I want) and Laden (large store) then try to form a sentence with those words as best as you ca n, even if you know it wont make complete sense. Try to be create and dance around any unknown words until you get the meaning across. This will teach your brain to be more creative and nimble with the language.Afterwards, write down what you missed so you can keep practicing.Try to speak in other languages as often as possible in everyday life. The goal should be for you to use all the languages youre learning to speak at least once a day, in order to best familiarize yourself with how words and phrases in those languages are used.Scribble out to-do lists, grocery lists, notes-to-self and memos in your languages.Go about your daily routine and narrative everything youre doing in your target language or languages. Try to keep track of any big gaps in grammar and vocabulary that are necessary to describe your day-to-day life. When studying, make it as interactive as possible. This includes singing along to songs in other languages as well as talking to the owner of the authentic ethn ic restaurant down the street who only knows a handful of words in your native language. Anything you can do to actively use and play with the languages youre learning is great for memory.3. Introduce the sound of music to your study routineDo you love music? If you answered yes, then did you already know that you can use your beloved music to help you learn how to speak languages faster?Oh, yeah!Music and language learning practically go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly or crackers and cheese. Not only does music match up well with language learning (since, you know, music is also a form of language) but itâs believed that incorporating music into your studies aids your concentration and overall brain performance. Music can also be a great tool to help you learn multiple languages, as you can use the lyrics of foreign languages songs as lyrical study guides. The melody will make the language stick better in your brain, and singing along will boost your fluency.Yes, in deed, if youâre open minded to listening to music in foreign languages, then you can always use music to your language learning advantage. As you listen, pay close attention and do your best to follow along with the singer while keeping your ear out for exactly how they pronounce their words. Eventually, with time and lots of practice, youâll actually be understanding what theyâre saying including how they pronounce every syllable. After that, its only a matter of time and practice before those same natural, authentic sounds start rolling smoothly off your own tongue. If youre ready to get started on effectively merging music and language speaking together, then whip out your iPod (or whichever device you use to listen to music), find some foreign songs that you love and get to singing.Try finding some karaoke style songsâ"which have only music, no wordsâ"and keep those too. Then, when youre ready, you can start trying to sing solo!4. Choose languages that have similar str ucturesThis is a great secret strategy if you havent chosen which languages you want to study yet, or still have room to add one more to your study schedule. When it comes to learning how to speak multiple languages fluently, a good strategy to implement is to learn languages that fall under the same language family, which are groups of languages that are linguistically linked based on one ancestral mother language. This ancestral tongue is commonly known as the proto-language.For example, if youâre trying to learn how to speak Spanish but you know in your heart that Spanish isnât the only language you want to learn how to speak, then it might be a good idea to learn a language with a similar structure, such as French or Italian, instead of something vastly different such as Swahili or Japanese. In this case, Spanish falls into the same Indo-European Romantic language category as French and Italian, so these languages will be easier to learn at the same time. The grammar style a nd all the vocabulary will be very similarâ"youll just need pay attention to the handful of differences!5. Be patient and donât give up!Out of all the secrets on this list, this might be the most valuable secret of all.Having both patience and perseverance is the key to successfully teaching yourself how to speak any language. Some might grasp language lessons faster than others, but everyone is different. Theres a chance that some lessons will come much harder than others, and some will require a great deal of effort to really learn. No matter how fast or how slow you learn, its always important to remember to take your time, be kind to yourself and never give up.A few tips to help you maintain a good sense of patience while you encounter hurdles on your language learning journey are:taking deep breathspacing yourselfstopping study sessions when you become overly frustratedrealizing that everyone messes upchatting about issues with fellow language learnersasking questions in onl ine forumssetting realistic and reasonable goalsRemember: Itâs great to be enthusiastic, but if youre impatient and always chomping at the bit to reach the next lesson, then this could turn into frustration. You may be harming yourself in the long run rather than helping.6. Go for quality, not quantityWe understand. You like to show off your rad language skills by saying different phrases in other languages to impress your friends, family or even potential love interest. You may not know a thing about Spanish, but if you say to someone, âte ves hermosa esta noche, which is English for âyou look lovely tonight,â then youâll probably get the attention you seek. While this is great, make sure that you go for quality, not quantity, as best as you can while learning to speak different languages. This means that while learning how to speak several languages at once, try to become as fluent in the languages youre learning as possible instead of just trying to learn bits and pie ces of many, many more languages. By doing so, youâll really be able to engage in deep and meaningful conversations with others instead of being limited to only short phrases that may or may not lead anything. In other words, if you dont want to end up like this:make sure that you put in the work to speak the language as fluently as you can. Itll probably save you from some embarrassing situations. And, hey, psst.Did you know that there are some tricks to prevent mixing up languages in your head or in your speech? Try thinking in the languages youre learning and using slightly different voices for each languages. Adopt specific faces for different languages. These are all great ways to help you speak various languages without mixing them up. These are just training wheels thoughâ"after a while you can kick them off and speak using your average voice and average facial expressions.7. Cultivate passionHaving strong passion and drive for your languages sets the foundation for becomi ng a fluent multilingual. No matter what the reason is that you choose to become bilingual, trilingual or a full-on polyglot, itâs important to still feel eagerness and enjoyment after days, months and years of intensive learning. Doing so will most likely keep you motivated enough to get the results you want. That means you need to do what you want, when you want. If youre only squeezing in a little study time at obscenely early or late hours, it will be hard to learn well and stick to your learning plan. Give yourself a time slot during the day thats conducive to learning. And if you like learning by the book thats perfectly fine, but if youd much rather learn by watching K-Pop videos, or if you find yourself procrastinating language study by watching news clips, then thats okay too! Just have fun, digest as much content in foreign languages as possible, and youll soon find that this everyday language habit is quite easy to stick to.8. Dont go it aloneWhen it comes to being skil lful at anything, whether that be cooking, hockey or mastering foreign languages, you canât go wrong when youre learning from the best.Experience is the best teacher, but other people with experience, like these guys right here, can be the messengers to help guide you by sharing their most effective methods and making the whole process more painless. If youâd rather learn how to speak languages with someone whoâs on the same level as you though, instead of finding someone like a mentor or tutor, try finding language exchange partners. These will be people who are fluent in the language youre trying to learn but are beginners in the language that you speak natively. The more partners you have, the better youâll be exposed to the language and the unique culture enriched with the language. For example, if youâre trying to learn how to speak Dutch, Arabic and Portuguese at the same time, then start finding people who are natives in those specific languages who are willing to work with you to help you learn whether in person or online. In exchange, you can help them out with English or any other language you know natively and that they want to learn. Those are the eight secrets weve got to aid you towards fluency in any language you choose to studyâ"even when juggling multiple languages at once.Good luck on your language learning journey!
